Keep Blount Beautiful creates new volunteer opportunities

Keep Blount Beautiful is looking for volunteers and is expanding its volunteer program.

“We are trying to expand our support for local events,” said Charlene DeSha, Keep Blount Beautiful coordinator.

There are two services Keep Blount Beautiful will offer:

Event Recycling Volunteers: This would include educating event attendees on what/where to recycle at events. Basically volunteers would man the recycling/garbage can station. Recycling volunteers help increase recycling at events by 30 to 50 percent, which can make a huge difference in what is sent to the landfill, DeSha said.

Litter Volunteers: This would include volunteers picking up litter during an event. For some reason, event goers tend to litter more than normal. “We are looking at partnering with the Foothills Fall Festival and organizing litter groups to pick up in the non-concert areas,” DeSha said, “especially the Children’s Area.”

An immediate need is for volunteers to hand out pocket and car ashtrays at the Maryville Friday Night Art Walk from 6 to 8 p.m. on Aug 26. Volunteers will receive a Stop Litter T-shirt for their services.

Anyone interested in volunteering for the overall program or the Last Friday Art Walk give-away should contact Keep Blount Beautiful at 865-681-4809 or email:
