Maryville College Student Literacy Corps celebrates Dr. Seuss’ birthday

Such was the philosophy of Theodor Seuss Geisel, renowned children’s book author. To celebrate the power of reading and to commemorate what would have been Geisel’s 107th birthday, the Maryville College Student Literacy Corps invited area children to Maryville College on March 2 to have a birthday party.

Activities included coloring, reading Seuss stories, singing songs and making crafts, with refreshments of Dr. Seuss-themed birthday cake and other goodies, although no green eggs or ham were present.

The celebration took place in the Samuel Tyndale Wilson Center for Campus Ministry, and admission was free for area children.

The goal of the Maryville College’s Student Literacy Corps is to promote literacy in Blount County.
