The Community Food Connection of Blount County will hold the first food drive of 2011 at the Kroger on Hall Road in Alcoa.

The dates are April 8-10. Friday and Saturday hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The three-day goal is $18,000 in donated groceries. Kroger will have three pallets of needed items to facilitate a quick, one-stop shopping experience.

Many months, the Community Food Connection purchases $11,000 to $15,000 in basic groceries for their clients.

Nearly 75 volunteers will help hand out fliers, pick up donated groceries or sort and shelve groceries at the store/warehouse. The Maryville-Alcoa Civitan Club and the Blount County Association of Realtors are two of the groups helping this weekend.
