Special month has ‘wow’ factor for Blount Chamber members

If the ending of third quarter has you scrambling to build up business in the year’s last quarter, or if it is just time to revamp, retool and relearn some important business principles, the Blount Count Chamber of Commerce has a tool-box full of helpful events coming up in October.

Helping to showcase the value of Chamber membership, the Blount Chamber is hitting some needed issues and topics to help their members, with some of the events also open to the public. Special events and programs on the horizon for the Blount Chamber, Blount Chamber Foundation and the Blount Chamber Partnership follow. For more information about the Chamber, the Blount Chamber Partnership or any events, visit www.blountchamber.com or call 865-983-2241.

The Blount Chamber is located at 201 S. Washington Street in Maryville.

Sneak-a-Peek at Chamber networking

Looking for a way to connect with the business community? The Blount Chamber is the way, and now is the time.

The Blount County Chamber of Commerce is inviting potential members to an upcoming networking event as a special sneak-a-peak at the Chamber. Members and potential members are invited to the Chamber Coffee set for Thursday, Sept., 7:45 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. at the new Pellissippi State Community College, Blount County Campus.

“It’s a great way to get your feet wet, so to speak,” says membership vice chair Boyce Smith of Wal-Mart. “The coffees, mixers and other Chamber networking events provide members an opportunity to connect with other business people. Ultimately, every contact is a potential customer, supplier or new friend.”

With more than 100 networking opportunities annually, the Chamber is a great place to connect and build on new business relationships. In addition to networking opportunities, members gain valuable insight during workshops, seminars and government briefings.

In an effort to expose more businesses to Chamber benefits, the Blount Chamber is offering a $25 discount for new members during the month of October.

Supervisor Training, HR and Legal Seminar

In a world of ever changing rules and regulations, the Blount Count Chamber of Commerce wants to help members and the general public sort it all out.

Timely topics will be up for discussion at the Supervisor Training, Human Resource and Legal Seminar. The morning event is set for Sept. 29, 8:15 - 11:45 a.m. at the Chamber. Cost is $25 for chamber members, $20 for two or more from the same company and $50 for the general public.

This seminar is for human resource specialists and business managers/administrators of any large or small business. Experts in the human resource and legal fields will present several timely topics such as employment law 101 for supervisors, handling difficult people and social media in the workplace

“This seminar will be particularly helpful to floor supervisors, branch managers, store managers and small business owners to help them stay current in the changing environment of employment and related topics,” said attorney and event chair Howard Jackson.

Register online at www.blountchamber.com or contact Kathy Delozier at 865-983-2241. This opportunity is presented by the Chamber’s Human Resource Focus Group and is part of a series of events called the Ripple Effect presented by the Blount Partnership.

‘Ask an Expert’ program

The Blount Chamber is proud of its members and the expertise they bring to the Chamber table. Sharing that expertise with other chamber members and the general public seemed a logical next step.

A new program in October is designed to assist any business on a variety of business topics. Ask an Expert week will start on Monday, Oct. 4, and run through Friday, Oct. 8. For a $1 per minute consultation fee, local business people can meet experts in the fields of marketing, benefit consulting, web design, taxes, insurance, technology, and more. Individuals can schedule as little as 10 minutes or as much as 60 minutes.

“I meet with business owners all the time who can’t afford to hire a marketing professional or a web design company. Some business owners may only have a few questions that they need to ask a technology expert,” says Julia Kyle, executive vice president of Chamber membership. “Ask an Expert is an excellent way to get needed business advice for a nominal fee. Business owners, managers and supervisors can receive advice that is tailored to their business needs.”

“We receive input from our members, who are mostly small business owners, on a yearly basis,” says Boyce Smith of Wal-Mart and vice chair of membership. “Time and time again, we hear that they need help on a variety of topics. Participating in the Ask an Expert program is an easy and cost effective way to get that help.”

To book an appointment, contact 865-273-1205 or for additional information; contact Julia Kyle at 865-983-2241. All sessions will be held at the Blount County Chamber of Commerce, 201 S. Washington Street in Maryville. The Chamber’s Ask an Expert is for members and potential members.
