Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.
Records: William Blount (3-3, 1-2 District 4AAA) West (3-2, 0-2)
Previous meeting: Playing its fourth game decided by a touchdown or less at this point last season, the Governors fell in a thriller, 28-26, at Mike White Field. A Zach Witt pass pulled William Blount within two with just over a minute remaining. West got the stop when the Governors went for two.
Last week: The Governors intercepted Heritage quarterback Tyler Hartley four times, with junior Hunter Saunders and senior Dalton Wheeler returning two of them for touchdowns. The Mountaineers were limited to 15 yards rushing on 10 carries, 65 through the air. Running back Greg Cook had a pair of scoring runs. West stopped Fulton, 36-20, in an evenly-played game last Friday. Rebel quarterback Christian Francis had touchdown passes of 37, 57 and 42 yards. He also ran 34 yards for a score.
Keep an eye on: William Blount ranks 24th of 32 teams that will qualify for Class 6A playoff as of last Friday. To hold that placing or move up, the Governors will likely be forced to defend the pass again. Wheeler, Saunders and senior Maurice Hurd will be tested. Count on it. Offensively, we say Wheeler or fellow senior Brookes Cunningham will be the first Governor this season to rush for 100 yards. Is this that game?
