Serenity Salon and Boutique owner is happy where she landed

Patty Holland took a leap of faith three years ago -- a jump that began in Tampa and landed in Townsend.

Holland moved from Florida to Tennessee to open Serenity Salon and Boutique, a full-service salon and shop at the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. She said she hasn’t looked back since.

She said during a time when salons everywhere are closing their doors, “It’s been going really well.”

Holland has been a stylist for 38 years and said when she came to Townsend, “I had to build my clientele from the ground up.”

She says many of her clients come from Blount County, and she sees regulars from out of state as well. “They came here for vacation, and they always come back to me for their hair,” she said.

The boutique and salon combine two of her favorite things. “I’ve always loved to shop, but my passion has always been hair.” Holland has been a stylist for 38 years.

The hair salon specializes coloring, foil highlights, cuts, permanent waves and styling. Serenity also offers manicures and pedicures that can be combined with hot stone and paraffin treatments.

The boutique offers various professional hair products from the Matrix line as well as salon-quality blow dryers, curling irons, flat irons and brushes. Along with hair products, they sell a popular body care line called Lady Primrose.

Holland said the boutique also carries high-end clothing and accessories. “A lot of people don’t realize we have this in the mountains. We have things that nobody else has.”

Holland said she is stocking her shop with new fall and holiday merchandise this weekend, just in time for Townsend Fall Heritage Festival and Old Timers Day (

Aside from offering unique boutique items and experienced hair services, Holland said the secret to her success is: “I’m a positive person.”
