It is late summer and for folks at the Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont, it means one thing: it’s Legacy of Tremont weekend.
Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont will be celebrating 41 years of connecting people and nature on Sept. 19 with their 5th Annual Homecoming dinner.
Sandi Byrd, director of development and public relations, said this is the one time of year the staff and supporters gather to celebrate Tremont.
“A lot of former supporters and a lot of new faces are in the crowd, and it’s a time to celebrate the fact we have this wonderful national park as a classroom,” she said. “We celebrate the kids and adults who get to come through here and learn, and it is also a good old fashioned dinner on the grounds courtesy of Miss Lily’s Café and Catering with barbecue and all kinds of sides prepared by Tremont’s own chef, Steve Foster.”
Byrd said Special Delivery, a local Townsend bluegrass band, will play and former Heartland Series host Bill Landry will speak. There will also be a silent auction. “It is a fun time to see folks and talk a little about what is new and a little about what happened in the past year and folks who have come through.”
The event will take place on Tremont’s campus from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and includes dinner, entertainment, and hands-on activities with Tremont staff. The cost for this fundraising event is $50 per ticket, and pre-registration is required.
Byrd said will be various exhibits by Tremont’s education staff, and bid on a myriad of items in the annual silent auction.
Once the dinner bell rings, guests will head to the buffet to enjoy a tasty barbecue dinner.
Seating for this fundraising dinner is limited, so call now to make your reservations. Call 865-448-6709 or visit www.gsmit.org/homecoming.
