The Blount County Democratic Party on Wednesday opened a new headquarters for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mike McWherter.
The new headquarters is at 321 Ellis Ave., Maryville. Ben Rauhuff works with the McWherter campaign in Blount County and said the new office will have plenty of bumper stickers, buttons and yard signs. “Folks can pick them up, or we’d be happy to deliver them to their home,” he said.
Rauhuff said people are catching onto the McWherter campaign because his father Ned Ray McWherter was a good governor. One of the themes of McWherter’s campaign is that he works in different businesses throughout the state. “People like the idea he’s a working a man. I had him at 411 Restaurant, and he went in there and worked, washed dishes and cleaned tables for two hours and a half,” Rauhuff said.
McWherter has visited Blount County three times since the August Democratic primary. He visited Ryans Restaurant for a First Friday Blount County Democrats program, the United Steel Workers Union Hall on Hall Road and Miles Family 411 Restaurant.
“He’s getting a real good response,” Rauhuff said. “It’s super. We’re going to win this.”
The new office is six days a week. The headquarters is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
