The newest place to get medical care in Blount County will be where many residents already do their weekly shopping in Alcoa.
Blount Memorial Hospital and Walmart announced late last week that The Clinic at Walmart will open on Monday, Sept. 27, at 8 a.m.
The clinic will be operated by Blount Memorial Hospital and is inside the Walmart, 1030 Hunters Crossing Drive in Alcoa.
The walk-in health clinic is the first owned and operated by Blount Memorial Hospital in a Walmart. The clinic will provide access to basic health care services seven days a week, with no appointment necessary. The clinic will be open for walk-in care from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
For busy customers who need care, especially after working hours or on weekends, the clinic will treat common health ailments and offer routine services. These include, but are not limited to, the following: acute respiratory illness or cough; allergy and sinus symptoms, cold and mouth sores, earache, minor burns and sunburns, sore and strep throat, flu diagnosis, pink eye or stye, upset stomach, strains and sprains, urinary tract and bladder infections and suture, earwax and wart removal.
“We are excited to work in partnership with Walmart, which will allow us to improve access to health care for our community,” Blount Memorial Hospital CEO Don Heinemann said. “The clinic at Walmart is just another way that Blount Memorial will be able to meet the growing health care needs of Blount County residents, and it will enable us to fulfill the needs of our patients who may not already have a family physician by providing them access to quality health care that they can afford. The clinic will be staffed with family nurse practitioners who can offer prompt care for non-emergency illnesses and injuries, as well as health screenings and physicals.”
“Walmart is dedicated to serving our customers and our communities, and this type of clinic helps expand their access to quality health care,” says Bruce Shepard, Walmart’s director of healthcare innovations. “Blount Memorial Hospital is a well-known and respected health care provider in this area, so our customers will receive quality care from people they know and trust.”
Manager of the Alcoa Walmart is Boyce Smith.
With the opening of this clinic, there will be in-store clinics in 98 Walmart stores across 21 states. For further information about The Clinic at Walmart, please visit www.walmart.com/clinics.
