Arts in the Park draws budding artists to Springbrook

Fine Arts Blount members at the ArtSpace Gallery on East Broadway Avenue in Downtown Maryville offer more than just venues and events for local artists. Members say they are also committed to teaching the next generation of artists.

FAB is offering art classes for children and adults this fall. Katie Kinney, president of FAB, said space is limited but still available.

Class offerings include: SilkShapes, an art form where pictures or designs are dyed on Chinese silk scarves or hangings; Copy Cats drawing lessons; pottery classes; Digital photography workshops; and oil painting for adults.

Fees for classes range from $50 to $125, depending on the medium and related supply costs.

Kinney said many classes are designed for elementary children but are also popular with teenagers. She said the “Kids ’N’ Klay,” pottery classes are “especially a big hit.” Home school groups and scout troops are also encouraged to schedule art lessons.

FAB instructors offered the community free sample classes at Arts in the Park, which was held at Springbrook Park on Aug. 7.

Kinney said the purpose of the event was, “to bring arts into the community and showcase our teachers.”

More than 125 children and adults participated in Arts in the Park. She said the event is slated again for next year toward the beginning of the school year.
