Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.
Records: William Blount (1-2), Jefferson Co. (2-0)
Previous meeting: The Governors rallied from a 28-0 deficit with nine minutes to play in the half to roar back and shock the Patriots, 38-35, last season at Mike White Field. William Blount quarterback Zach Witt ran for a pair scores, adding 220 yards passing. Grayson Beason’s 23-yard field goal late put William Blount over top.
Last week: William Blount met the force of nature that is Bearden running back Devrin Young last week, and the Bulldog senior rocked the Governors with two first half kickoffs returned for touchdowns of 90 and 93 yards. Young added rushing touchdowns of 60, 5 and 47 yards. The Patriots knocked Sevier County from the ranks of the unbeaten, 28-14, last Friday. The Smoky Bears steamed by the Governors, 42-14, in the season opener for both teams three weeks ago.
Keep an eye on: Lane Bloom has two scoring runs this season of better than 60 yards. The Governor sophomore is William Blount’s back of the future, but the Governors kind of need him now. If Bloom, junior Greg Cook and senior Dalton Wheeler can find some room to run, they can each take it to the house. Witt made great strides over the summer to become a better passer, but if William Blount’s offense is unable to keep opposing defenses honest, it’ll be Blitz City up in Dandridge. We don’t exactly know how senior Mikal Parish picked up the nickname “Skittles,” but he’ll catch the ball. Senior Jesse Crisp and junior Hunter Saunders are going to have a big night on someone this season, might as well start with this one. It could be big for the Governors. Patriot running back Dakota Wright gave the William Blount defense fits a year ago.
