The Blount United Soccer Club U12 Hammers, based in Maryville, needed overtime to win the championship of the Appalachian Fall Festival Soccer Tournament in Kingsport recently. With the score tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, Sean Snelgrove put in the go-ahead goal in the extra period with Jace Burchfield adding an insurance goal to secure the tile with a 3-1 win over the Easley South Carolina Soccer Club.
The Hammers were dominant in their side of the bracket, beating Bristol Fusion White, 14-0, ESRA West Virginia Raptors, 3-2, and HVFC of Kingsport, 7-0, before facing Easley in the championship. Scoring goals for the Hammers were: Burchfield (8), Dawson Biddle (5), Chatham Headrick (3), Daniel Fleer (2), Sean Snelgrove (2), Totti Toplica (2), Takuro Yasuoka (2), Patrick Corley (1), Walker Phillips (1) and Ryan Whitt (1). A strong Hammers defense was anchored by keeper Walker Phillips and defenders Evan Jones and Noah Tucker. The Hammers are coached by John Fleer.
