Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.
Records: Heritage (3-6, 0-6 District 4AAA), West (7-2, 4-2)
Previous meeting: The Mountaineers gave the Rebels a 32-point, first-half head start before rallying to fall just short, 39-22, in last season’s finale. Heritage quarterback Tyler Hartley let it fly in the second half, finishing with 239 yards passing. Former Mountaineer star Michael Cermak scored all three Heritage touchdowns as he’d done the week before in a shocking upset of Catholic.
Last week: Catholic remembered last year. The Catholic coaching staff had the Irish watch the video of the 21-7 Mountaineer stunner every day last week. Every day. The end result was a 42-0 Catholic shutout in Knoxville. West ripped Bearden, 34-13, last week to move into second place in district play. The Rebels forced six Bulldog turnovers.
Keep an eye on: Chase Cline’s junior season at running back has had some big moments: back-to-back 200-yard rushing games. Dylan Burchfield, Je’Rell Bledsoe, Chase Everett and Justin Newman have each had big nights at receiver for the Mountaineers. Hartley has shown true leadership at quarterback. The Mountaineers are going to need a big game from each of them, along with a mystery man to help Cline in the backfield, to counter a West team awfully big up front defensively with plenty of speed at linebacker.
