Previous meeting: A deep, balanced Farragut team rolled big in last year’s regular-season finale, sweeping aside the Governors, 45-0, on their way to the Class 6A playoffs. Quarterback Reese Browning and running back De’Andre Purdy had huge nights for the Admirals.
Last week: The Governors had a promising opening drive last week. Lane Bloom’s touchdown run as time expired again showed off the William Blount sophomore’s ability to get to the corner. Pretty much everything else about a 52-6 loss to Maryville the Governors would like to forget. Farragut ran the ball nearly 40 times for 213 yards in a 16-7 win over Lenoir City. Backup quarterback Jonathan King, on in place of injured starter Cody Rule, actually had a bigger impact on the outcome with three field goals as the Admiral placekicker.
Keep an eye on: Senior Zach Owen replaced fellow senior Zach Witt at quarterback during the Governors’ disastrous second quarter last week. The margin was too much to make up at that point, but Owen at least settled the Governors. In terms of raw speed, William Blount may actually have an edge in this one in senior Dalton Wheeler, juniors Hunter Saunders and Greg Cook and the speedy Bloom. The X-factor? Senior wide out Jesse Crisp.
