The Alcoa Middle School girls’ soccer team defeated Halls, 2-0, to win the Smoky Mountain Middle School Soccer Division D tournament at the US Cellular Soccer Complex in Knoxville on Sunday. Eighth-grader McKenzie Hawkins scored both goals in the championship match. Goalkeeper Victoria Williams, a sixth-grader, got the shutout, not allowing a single goal on Sunday, including a 4-0 win over Gresham. Alcoa defeated Cherokee, 4-0, and Union Grove, 2-1, on Saturday. Forwards Piece Scarlett-Jones and midfielder Taylor Yoder had strong weekends for Alcoa, with Pierce and Taylor delivering goals in the wins over Cherokee and Gresham. Midfielder Holly Sadler played a pivotal role defensively in all four games. Emily Assenmacher, Megan Wells, Ashley Bearden, Julia Vickers, Amelia Porter and Octavia Lenoir provided consistent depth for Alcoa throughout the tournament. Reagan Crosby, Asia Baker, Alyssa Player, Alex Cowden, Kiya Wilson, Anna Grace Ford, Aashi Shah and Madison Himes round out the championship roster. Alcoa is coached by Holly Scarlett and assistant coach Billy Cowden.
