Matthew Tyler Neal, 17, received his Eagle Scout award at a Court of Honor on Saturday, May 15, at Sam Houston Historic Schoolhouse.
Matthew began his Scouting career in first grade as a Tiger Cub in Santa Clarita, Calif. He transferred to Cub Scout Pack 521 in Aurora, Ill., where he earned the Arrow of Light award before he joined Boy Scout Troop 81 in Naperville, Ill. In 2007, he moved to Maryville and joined Troop 81 at First United Methodist Church of Maryville.
Matthews has served as Senior Patrol Leader of his troop, Senior Patrol Leader of Troop 1839 which attended the National Jamboree at Fort AP Hill in Virginia this past summer and Chapter Chief of Tuckaleechee District for the Order of the Arrow. Matthew is a senior at Heritage High School and is a member of the marching band. He will graduate in May and plans to major in Chemical Engineering.
He is the son of Dennis and Donna Neal of Maryville, the grandson of Don and Imogene Teffeteller of Maryville and Donna Lee Neal and the late Howard Neal of Blue Ridge, Ga.
Matthew’s project was to rework a flower bed at Chilhowee View Community Center to make it easier to maintain.
