Pellissippi State hosts Sen. Doug Overbey Day

Since voters first gave him a seat in the Tennessee General Assembly a decade ago, Sen. Doug Overbey has shown an interest in Pellissippi State Community College.

“He’s been very supportive of the college from the time he was elected,” said Pellissippi State President Allen Edwards.

Pellissippi State will honor the state lawmaker’s contributions to the college with Sen. Doug Overbey Day on Oct. 13, 9-11 a.m., at the Blount County Campus.

One way that Overbey has shown his support for Pellissippi State over time is to help keep the college’s request for funding a new Blount County campus on the state’s list of higher education capital projects. Pellissippi State opened the $22 million campus this fall.

Overbey represents District 8, which includes Blount and Sevier counties, and has served four consecutive terms in the state House of Representatives. In November 2008, voters elected him to his first term as a state senator. He is a Maryville resident and Knoxville attorney.
