Dr. Tom Bogart has been on the job as the new president of Maryville College for a little more than four months. In that time, the economics professor turned college president says he has been impressed by the reputation of the community he and his family chose to call home.
“What has been amazing is, no matter where I go, there is a Maryville connection and that has been really pleasant to run into to,” he said.
The college and community officially welcomed Bogart during a reception on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at the Clayton Center for the Arts. “It was nice to be officially welcomed,” Bogart said. “What was great was we had a range of people, not just from Maryville and Blount County, but from Knoxville and Oak Ridge as well.”
The Office of Communications said about 75 turned out for the reception, and Bogart said he was gratified by the response, especially from the students. “I am just so happy to be here, and my family and I feel so at home already. One of the best things about the reception was we got to hear from some of our students and some of the wonderful things they’re up to,” he said.
