The Fraternal Order of Police Bud Allison Memorial Lodge #9 in Maryville is seeking donations and applications for its annual Shop With a Cop event.
The shopping event will be held Saturday, Dec. 11, at Shop With a Cop’s corporate sponsor, Alcoa Wal-Mart. On this day, area law enforcement officers take the youngsters shopping.
Applications are available at all Blount County, Alcoa, and Maryville elementary schools as well as the Alcoa and Maryville Police Departments and the Blount County Justice Center. The deadline to return applications is Monday, Nov. 29, at 4:30 p.m. Applications will be accepted for children between the ages 6 to 10 at the time of the event.
For 19 years, Shop With a Cop has given needy children a chance to buy gifts for themselves and others.
Lodge #9 benefits from the annual “Slimfest” at Midland Plaza in August, with part of the proceeds going directly to Shop With a Cop. “Slimfest” is organized by Steve Stilts.
In October, the City of Louisville held an annual fall festival, with part of the proceeds going to Shop With a Cop. In addition, the proceeds from the annual bluegrass benefit concert at the Rocky Branch Community Center, which will be held Saturday, Dec. 10, from 4 to 10 p.m., will be donated to the cause.
