The Tennessee Council of Teachers of English held their annual convention in Chattanooga on Sept. 24-25. At this meeting, Stephen Clark of Maryville High School was recognized with the Don Jenkins English Teacher of Excellence Award.
Clark was one of two teachers to be honored statewide. Clark has taught English for 22 years, with seven of those years at Maryville High School. He currently teachers 12th grade AP Literature and serves as newspaper sponsor.
“I think my challenge as an English teacher is to continue to promote these concepts in my classrooms in the present and future while also preparing students for standardized tests,” he said.
