Area 15 Special Olympians bring home the medals

A delegation of five athletes and three coaches from Area 15 Special Olympics recently attended Tennessee Special Olympics State Games in Nashville.

The state games, held on May 21-22, saw Area 15 Olympians return home with some medals and some personal best accomplishments. The Olympians returned from Nashville on Saturday evening, May 22, after having a great time at the Games all day. Paul Myers, Area 15 Power Lifter, achieved a personal best Bench Press at 225 lbs. and a Deadlift of 345 lbs. All the athletes represented Area 15 with great pride in competing in their events.

Bringing home medals were:

Earl Anderson: Gold medal for Softball Throw; gold medal for 100-meter Dash

Robin Fitzgerald: Bronze medal for Softball Throw; gold medal for Standing Long Jump

Janice Hensley: Silver medal for Softball Throw

Lanita Tipton: Participation Medal, 4th place for Softball Throw

Paul Myers: Gold medal for Bench Press; gold medal for Deadlift; gold medal for Combination.

Before the state games, the 24th annual Area 15 Special Olympics games were held at Heritage High School. Students from 23 area schools competed in track and field events on April 28, assisted by about 300 volunteers.
