Cherry stepping down

John Cherry is stepping down at marketing director at the Clayton Center for the Arts.

Cherry, 47, is responsible marketing and promotions for the center and for the events held there. He was hired in October of 2009.

Cherry said he is returning to the Tellico Village Property Owners Association as their public relations manager. He held that position for three years before coming to the Clayton Center.

“It was a tough decision because I do care so much about the Clayton Center and what it does for the community but I felt the opportunity being presented at the time it was presented was something I needed to do for my family and myself,” Cherry said.

Cherry, who is also active with the Foothills Community Players, said this was the right time to make a job change. “Being as how we’ve gotten through the spring events with what we called our mini-season, it was good time for me to make this move,” he said. “We’re just getting geared up for the 2010-2011 season and that is something the staff here will continue to work toward putting the final touches on and promoting.”

Holly Ludlow-Jackson, vice president of advancement and community relations with Maryville College, said final approval is being obtained to hire for the position. “We’ll be posting it as early as this weekend, and we’re hopeful to have this position filled very quickly,” she said.
