Maryville College President Gerald W. Gibson was recognized in the State Senate recently for his service to the people of Tennessee on the occasion of his retirement. Gibson and his wife, Rachel, were the guests of Senator Doug Overbey (R-Maryville) who sponsored a Senate Joint Resolution in honor of the veteran educator.
The resolution enumerates Dr. Gibson’s academic achievements, long career in higher education and his accomplishments at the College since taking the helm in 1993. Some of those accomplishments include construction of six new facilities, renovation of 12 buildings, as well as increasing the academic quality for faculty and students.
“Throughout his career, President Gibson has demonstrated the utmost professionalism, ability, and integrity, winning the respect and admiration of the staff, students and all those in our community,” said Sen. Overbey. “I am honored to present this resolution in recognition of his work, which will have a long-lasting effect on the lives of many citizens.
