The Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont had 18 teams combing the mountains for “treasures” on Saturday, March 6. The annual Smokies Scavenger Hunt was successful in both the “fun” and “fundraising” platforms.
“This year’s hunt, a fundraiser for Tremont, earned over $2,000,” event coordinator Sandi Byrd said. “But, more importantly, it introduced participants to many parts of Great Smoky Mountains National Park with which they were not familiar.”
Of the 18 teams this year, seven were repeat contestants from last year. As Jennifer Moore of the Bears, Beets Battlestar Gallactica team said: “We had a really good time and definitely got to see some new parts of the park!”
The 75 questions participants were given were challenging, but, in the words of Scott Warwick, team leader for FiveWicks + Two, “We had an awesome time! Thanks for putting on an awesome event!”
The Three Amigos team came in first with 928 points. Second place went to Foothill Striders with 889 points, with FiveWicks + Two finishing third with 875 points.
Teams continued to be very competitive for the event. The Three Amigos have participated all three years and have won at all three levels. The Foothill Striders won first place last year and second this year.
