Alcoa police announce crime tipline

The City of Alcoa Police Department recently implemented a new Crime Tipline. The tipline is an alternative means for citizens to report crime tips or suspicious activity anonymously.

Citizens can access the tipline online at www.cityofalcoa-tn.gov/crimetiptline, and click on the Crime Tipline icon. Clicking on this link will take the individual to the Crime Tip Submission Form. This new feature will be in addition to the department’s original crime tip method of calling in an anonymous tip to its Crime Hotline number at 865-380-4715.

Officers check the crime tip messages on a regular basis and distribute the information according to established procedures. In all cases, the crime tip information received is thoroughly evaluated and disseminated accordingly to appropriate law enforcement personnel.

The anonymous Tipline is not for emergencies or for reporting criminal or suspicious activity in progress. Citizens witnessing such activity should dial 911 immediately for police assistance.

The Alcoa Police Department’s mission is to protect and serve the people of our community. The Alcoa Police Department’s goal in providing this service is to obtain information on criminal or suspicious activity that may otherwise go unreported by individuals who may be reluctant to get involved. Citizen knowledge and cooperation can be a police officer’s greatest asset. Nothing is too small to report. All information received (including the tipster’s identity) is kept strictly confidential. Information is the best tool to fight crime.

When using the Crime Tipline, citizens are asked to please be as descriptive as possible in relating details of an incident or reason for a tip including names, descriptions, addresses, license plate numbers, or anything else that may assist in an investigation. Tipline users are encouraged to leave their name, phone number, or email address to assist with follow-up if necessary while maintaining anonymity. Unless asked, tipsters will not be contacted. The Alcoa Police Department asks the public to assist in keeping the City of Alcoa a safe place to live while improving the quality of life by taking the first step and submit their anonymous tips.

As with any law enforcement agency, there are criminal penalties for falsely reporting a crime or using the tipline in a harassing manner. Therefore, the public is reminded to please use the anonymous tipline with what is perceived as appropriate and factual information only
