Blount Today adds online obituaries

Blount Today has added online obituaries as an additional service to readers. The website can be found at

Tessa Bright Wildsmith, lead graphic designer, said the obituaries are online only. “It is one of those community services that we felt should be given to the public free-of-charge. It is something people always want to read and send to family and friends and we wanted to offer them to our readers free of charge,” said Bright.

Photos are included online if the funeral home emails a photo with the obituary.

Bright said the obituaries will stay online forever and won’t ever come down. “They’re organized chronologically and are easy to go through by date,” she said. “If you are looking for obits from a past date, search for it by the person’s name in our search bar, and you should find the obit from that individual.”

Obituaries are easy to locate under the Lifestyle main banner on the website.

Advertising director Marty Millsaps said offering free online obituaries compliments Blount Today’s commitment to the community. “This is just another area we can specialize in. We found that our community needed easier access to online obituary notices, and we wanted to meet that need. This is something else we can do to enhance our online presence.”

Millsaps thanked local funeral homes for providing the obituaries to Blount Today on a daily basis. In turn, funeral homes are able to offer their families online obituaries of their loved ones in Blount Today at no charge.

Thank you so much Blount Today! I have been so upset with The Daily Times about this and they simply haven't listened. You are exactly right that what you are providing is a public service to the citizens of Blount County and to those who live outside of our community who care about us! Hats off to you!
