Introduction to Golf offered at Pellissippi State

If you’ve always wanted to hit the golf course but haven’t had the opportunity to learn the pastime, here’s your chance. And you don’t even have to own a golf club.

Business and Community Services at Pellissippi State Community College is offering Introduction to Golf. The course is perfect for brand new players and those who want a better understanding of the basic mechanics, history and methodology of the game.

Golf pro Tom Keefe will teach the class 6-7 p.m. on Thursdays, March 16 through April 1. The classes are at Target Golf on Beaver Creek Drive. Equipment will be provided, or students may bring their own.

Keefe is a Class A Professional Golf Association player who has been teaching golf to novices and experts alike since 1972.

Students will become familiar with the equipment and vocabulary of the game. They’ll also get used to the controlled motion of chipping and putting, as well as learn the basic mechanics of the swing.

Keefe will give students his secrets for the best grip, stance and alignment and address how the three affect the ball in flight. Students also will learn how the arc and plane affect the ball.

The cost of the class is $65, plus a $10 facility fee. To register, call BCS at 865-694-6663.
