Visitors who braved the cold in mid-February got a special treat at Trillium Cove in Townsend on Feb. 13. Artist members of the Townsend Artisan Guild filled Mountain Sage Gallery for an art show and wine and cheese reception from 2 to 5 p.m. The artists displayed their works, talked to visitors about their inspirations and techniques and enjoyed the fellowship with customers and each other.
TAG was formed in 2007 with the goal of providing more opportunities for artisans to reach the public in Townsend, Wears Valley and Walland. The TAG members help arrange shows throughout the year, work in schools and communities to help spread an appreciation and love of the arts. They also provide classes and forums for the public and other artists.
On the calendar for TAG is participation in the Smoky Mountain Fiber Arts Festival in Townsend Friday through Sunday, March 19-21. The festival will feature demonstrations of the fiber arts, vendor exhibits and classes. In the summer, Art on the Porch kicks off every Friday, June 11 through Aug. 13 at the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center. The public can meet the artists and see their work from 5 to 7 p.m., a prelude to the Friday night concerts at the Heritage Center.
Visitors to Townsend can find fine arts and crafts in the Heritage Center, at the Townsend Visitor and Convention Center, and at several galleries throughout town, including the Collection, Mountain Sage Gallery, Wood-N-Strings and the craft shops at Nawger Nob.
