For the second consecutive year, the Pellissippi State Hot Air Balloon Festival has been designated by the Southeast Tourism Society as one of the “Top 20 Events in the Southeast.” It is the only Knoxville-based event to receive the recognition for the month of October and one of only four Knoxville-based events to earn the honor for fall 2010.
Slated this year for Oct. 1 and 2, the 7th Annual Pellissippi State Hot Air Balloon Festival joins events from a twelve-state region that are selected for the prestigious designation by the Southeast Tourism Society. The organization is a nonprofit that promotes and develops tourism throughout the Southeast. Selection to their “Top 20 Events Program” is, according to the Society, “a validation of an event’s quality.”
Features of the Pellissippi State Hot Air Balloon Festival include live music, entertainment, artist exhibitors and food vendors, as well as a children’s area. Two of the most popular activities are the evening balloon glow and tethered balloon rides (weather permitting). The festival is an annual fundraiser for the Pellissippi State Foundation, which raises money that supports programs directly impacting students.
Established festival hours are 4 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 1 and noon – 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 2. For additional information, visit www.pstcc.edu/balloon or call 865-694-6400.
