The League of Women Voters of Blount County is giving citizens the opportunity to meet state and local candidates and learn their views on the issues.
In preparation for early voting the League of Women Voters of Blount County is hosting two Candidate Forums on Monday evening, July 12, at the Blount County Public Library, 508 North Cusick St., Alcoa.
The first, from 6 - 7 p.m., is for Tennessee House of Representative candidates for Districts 8 and 20 and the second, from 7:15 - 8 p.m., is for Blount County Mayor candidates.
All Tennessee House of Representatives candidates for Districts 8 and 20, who qualified by April 1, 2010, are being invited to participate. For the Mayor’s forum, the winner of the Republican Primary, Ed Mitchell, and the Independent candidate who qualified by Feb. 18, Howard Kerr, are being invited to participate.
The public is encouraged to attend these forums which offer voters the opportunity to hear candidates’ views on vital community matters. The candidates will be asked to make statements and answer questions from the audience. Early voting for the Aug. 5, 2010 County General Election and State Primary begins on July 16 and continues through July 31.
The League of Women Voters of Blount County is a nonpartisan organization of both men and women who seek to register voters, educate citizens about the processes of government and about local issues, and encourage participation in elections and in governing. The League neither supports nor opposes candidates for office at any level of government.
