The two candidates for the Blount County mayor’s general election race will face each other in a debate June 14 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Alcoa.
Independent candidates Howard Kerr and Republican candidate Ed Mitchell will square off next 7 p.m. during the June meeting of the Hall, Oldfield, Maryville Empowerment, Inc. meeting. The “Meet The Candidates” event will be held at the Martin Luther King Center in Alcoa.
“Blount County citizens will finally have an opportunity to meet the two candidates for County Mayor, listen to their opinions on important subjects and join in an open discussion about the issues,” said Judy Watson-Knight, H.O.M.E. President. The general public is invited.
Each candidate will have two minutes to introduce himself and then the floor will be open for questions. Tanya Martin, a member of H.O.M.E.’s Board of Directors, will be moderator.
Candidates will take turns at fielding questions with the other candidate having equal time for a response.
“H.O.M.E. is happy to promote this service by providing a forum for all Blount County citizens to make informed decisions. It is consistent with H.O.M.E.’s mission,” Watson-Knight said.
