The 2010 Stars of Tomorrow Basketball Camp is set for Friday and Saturday, July 30 and 31, in a brand new home to celebrate its 11th year.
The free basketball camp for boys and girls ages 8 to 18 will be at William Blount High School gymnasium. Formerly the camp was held at the Everett Recreation Center. “We are so thankful we were able to hold the camp for the past years at the center through the generosity of the Maryville Alcoa Blount County Parks,” camp founder Loren Riddick said. “This year we’re moving to William Blount High School which will allow us to have our biggest and best camp yet with two in-door, air conditioned basketball courts.”
The camp will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, July 30, and from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 31. “This camp has been a tremendous positive contribution to our community. Every year has gotten better and better, not only improving as a camp, but reaching more and more kids,” Riddick said. “This short, 2 day camp, not only provides the basic skills of basketball and competition, but also incorporates the necessity of life’s teachings. Teamwork, work ethic, positive mindset, and fun are the main focus of the camp.”
Riddick said that during the 2009 camp, each participant received a free basketball and T-shirt along with sponsored drinks and food donated by partnering local businesses. “Our goal is to be able to do this again,” he said. “The only cost for the event is that each camper do a good deed for someone.”
Riddick said parents or guardians also are welcome to help. Register today. Space is available on a first come, first served basis and the first 100 players receive a basketball and T-shirt.
