The fundraiser basketball game between a local group of athletes and the Meadowlark Lemon’s Harlem All Stars set for Saturday, July 24, in the Alcoa High School gymnasium has been cancelled.
The game was to be a fundraiser for the Richard Williams Jr. Youth Leadership Development Academy and the Bethel AME Youth Department. Because of lackluster ticket sales, the game has been cancelled but fans can still see two Blount County athletes compete with Lemon and his Harlem All Stars, Academy executive director George Williams said.
The event was intended to be the second of two games played in this area. The first game scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, July 23, will still be played at Central High School in Knoxville.
“The game will not be played at Alcoa High School. Those who bought tickets can get refunds at the place where they bought the tickets or those tickets will be honored at the game that will be played at Central High School on Friday night at 6 p.m.,” said Williams.
