Amy Galyon has been named director of the Blount County Drug Court Program. Galyon has a background in law enforcement and criminal justice, including serving the past two years as an adult probation officer with the Blount County Probation Office.
Previously Galyon served as a criminal investigator and a child abuse investigator with the Blount County Sheriff’s Office. Her experience also includes two years as an instructional assistant with the Blount County Schools.
Drug Court is an alternative sentencing program designed to attack the problem of habitual criminal activity by providing treatment to drug addicts, along with intensive monitoring, random drug screens, required employment and community service, payment of fines and costs, and education for those who lack diplomas. Entry into Drug Court requires a guilty plea and is available only to non-violent offenders.
