Heritage Middle School was packed with students and their family and friends Nov. 13 when the annual fall carnival drew a crowd to campus for an evening of fun and music.
Coordinator Leann Denny said the event raised $5,026.65 after expenses for teachers to use for classroom supplies or items. “The carnival was absolutely wonderful. It went really well. We had a very high attendance, much higher than in the past, and each teacher ended up getting money to spend on their classrooms. We were pretty excited with the budget crisis, it’s nice to have some funds to spend in your classroom.”
Denny said each of the 53 teachers got about $94 a piece. They used the money to buy anything from paper and pencils to organizational materials to software for computers.
Denny said middle school students came with their parents and siblings. “Everybody seemed to love the live music,” she said of her dad, Terry Buchanan’s band.
“Students requested they come back next year,” she said. “It’s a bunch of guys that play together at First Baptist Church Maryville.”
