Blount Memorial Weight Management Center registered nurse Barbie Haas now is certified as a diabetes educator by the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators.

To achieve the status of a certified diabetes educator, Haas had to successfully complete the certification examination for diabetes educators, along with other professional practice experience requirements. To maintain certification, Haas must complete 75 hours of continued education every five years.

Haas, who has been employed by Blount Memorial since March 2007, provides both inpatient and outpatient diabetes education at the Blount Memorial Diabetes Management Center. She also helps facilitate support groups for diabetes patients.

She holds an associates degree from Reading Area Community College, in Reading, Pa. She is a member of the American Diabetes Association.
