Mark Skaggs has been named the director of the physicians group at Blount Memorial Hospital. Skaggs most recently was employed with Women’s Care Group where he was the practice administrator for seven years.
As director of the physicians group at Blount Memorial, Skaggs will be responsible for providing administrative, financial, operational, information and strategic management for multiple physician practices/clinic sites with multiple specialties. He also will oversee revenue cycle management, contract negotiations, recruitment of staff and physicians, marketing new services and policy/procedure development. He will be responsible for negotiating managed care contracts; preparing annual operating budgets; and ensuring compliance with standards and regulations.
Before joining Women’s Care Group, Skaggs spent a year as a practice administrator for Johnson City Internal Medicine Associates and an administrator of the State of Franklin Healthcare Associates Diagnostic Center in Johnson City. Prior to that, he was an executive director and controller of Premier Practice Management of East Tennessee for three years.
Skaggs worked as a physician practice accountant and financial analyst for a year at the Baptist Health System of East Tennessee. He also worked for The Berkline Corporation as an accounting manager and sales and marketing accountant between 1992 and 1997.
Skaggs received a bachelor of science in business administration at Tennessee Technological University, where he majored in accounting. He is a member of the Medical Group Management Association.
