After Trisha and Todd Hunt said their wedding vows and shared a kiss, they took off running as fast as they could.
The two avid runners weren’t jumping into a car to speed off on a honeymoon. They were running a 5K race in downtown Maryville. They married Dec. 5 near the Blount County Public Library and then headed to the starting line of the Reindeer Run on Church Avenue near Ruby Tuesday corporate office.
The annual Reindeer Run, a 5k and 1-Mile Run organized by Maryville Alcoa Blount County Parks & Recreation had a record number of 573 participants during this year’s race on Sunday, Dec. 5.
While several participants who braved the cold weather came dressed in Christmas attire, it was Trisha Bachman Hunt, 28, and Todd Hunt, 25, who garnered the most attention when they said their vows just before starting the race together. She wore white tights and a white running skirt with a sweat shirt while he wore a black and orange running apparel. The couple ran together. Trisha Bachman Hunt finished 238th with a time of 32 minutes and 39.98 seconds and Todd Hunt finished 239th with a time of 32 minutes and 40.33 seconds.
Trisha Bachman Hunt said they had been running together for years and decided this would be a way for their families to come together for the wedding. Her groom said they actually got engaged during a half-marathon in October in Hershey, Penn. “So we thought it would be fitting to do a run,” she said of their wedding plans.
Todd Hunt said the downtown course was challenging. “It was actually a pretty tough course,” he said.
In the race, first place went to Alan Horton, 30, with a time of 15:50. The Overall Female first place runner was Kathy Wolski, 44, who finished 11th place with a time of 19 minutes, 11.94 seconds.
This was the final event in the 2010 Healthy Blount Triple Crown of Running that is sponsored by Blount Memorial Hospital, Maryville Orthopedic Clinic, and Parks & Recreation. The Triple Crown series will begin again in April of 2011.
