Pathologist Dr. Robert M. Potter has been named director of laboratories at Blount Memorial Hospital. Potter will provide management over both the in-house hospital laboratory and Blount Outpatient Laboratory.
Potter received a bachelor of arts in both zoology and chemistry from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, and then received his medical degree at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis. He completed an anatomic and clinical pathology residency at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Va.
Before becoming the director of laboratories, he was a staff pathologist at Blount Memorial Hospital for 23 years. He is the managing member of Blount Pathologists, PLLC and the former chairman and current vice-chairman of the department of pathology at Blount Memorial. He also is the medical examiner for Blount County.
Potter is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Pathology in anatomic and clinical pathology. He is a fellow of the College of American Pathologists.
