More than 50 folks turned out at Blount Memorial Hospital on Monday, Dec. 6, to celebrate the season with the lighting of the Blount Memorial Foundation Holiday Tree of Lights.
Each light on the tree, located in front of the hospital on East Lamar Alexander Parkway, is donated by a community member in honor or in memory of a friend or loved one.
Administrator Don Heinemann said the live tree was planted 20 years ago. “It was 7 or 8 feet tall when we planted it,” he said. “This is a special service and always a fun event.”
The administrator said that for 10 years the foundation has been taking donations for the lights on the tree, raising more than $106,000 for the foundation.
Michael Lonker said his sons Dalton, 10, and Mason, 1, enjoyed the event. “The tree is beautiful,” Dalton said.
