House of Santa Mouse draws arts and crafts lovers to library

The Blount County Arts and Crafts Guild ushered in the holidays with the Sixth Annual House of Santa Mouse at the Blount County Public Library Dec. 2 through 4.

Forty-nine vendors, including 12 new vendors, were on hand selling everything from dolls to jewelry.

All items sold at House of Santa Mouse are handcrafted by an artisan. Price ranges start at $1 and up and are in a very affordable price range for great quality merchandise, most being one-of-a-kind items, said artist Gloria Nelson, who helped coordinate the show.

New to the show were newborn baby dolls, walking sticks, knotted quilts, crocheted animals, painted gourds and air-brushed T-shirts.

There were four new artisans along with a number of jewelry artisans and crafters. There were also silk flowers and wreath makers, stained glass experts, fabric art and soft sculptures, basket weavers, floral baskets, photography, decorative painters and painted rocks, Nelson said.

The Blount County Arts and Crafts Guild is a non-profit organization of artisans and crafters. The guild meets the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. except in June and July. In August, the group has a picnic to restart the new year. Currently there are 89 members. Meetings are in the meeting room of the Blount County Library. Anyone is welcome to join, said Nelson.
