What a treat! My stepson, Kirk, Jr., is a big fan of The Market at Washington and High, so he invited me to go along for the Taste of the Market in November. I had no idea what to expect, but the offerings would have exceeded any expectations I might have had!
We sampled green bean casserole, smoked Kielbasa, stuffed crab portabella, shrimp cocktail, bison hot dogs, homemade pimento cheese, chicken salad, macaroni salad and several different cheeses.
Everything was so delicious. I spoke with The Market’s Mike Adams, and he said he has this “sampling” about every other month. He says the next one is a Holiday Sampling at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 13.
Attendance at the Taste of the Market is good, with quite a few “regulars” who just won’t miss them. One lady I spoke with drives from Knoxville and attends them regularly. This is a terrific way to sample a food you might not ordinarily eat.
After the “main courses” mentioned above, I journeyed over to the desserts, and sampled several, of course! One of my favorites was a Peppermint Candy Cane dip. The Chocolate Smores dip was a close second. There was a Tellico Grains Pumpkin Roll and Lacey’s Milk Chocolate & Macadamia Nut Cookie that were also very delicious. While I was strolling around, I was enjoying sipping some Ski Lodge Hot Chocolate.
At the Christmas Taste of the Market, every department in The Market -- meats, seafood, produce, bakery, beverages -- will offer samples, plus it is a chance to check out their holiday specials and custom-made gift baskets. There is no charge for Taste of the Market.
The Market also offers catering or can prepare items for your holiday gathering for you to pick up.
