Breakfast in a Glass is an easy way to serve holiday guests a quick breakfast.

During the holidays, a delicious and easy breakfast or brunch idea combines all the good food of breakfast in an easy-to-serve, easy-to-eat format. Breakfast in a Glass even has an elegant look for your holiday guests. Grits, sausage, eggs, cheese and chopped tomatoes are layered in a wine glass or goblet to make this dish not only appetizing to the eye but quite filling for your family or holiday overnight guests.

If you don’t care for sausage, cube some ham or crumble crispy bacon to substitute for the sausage. Egg substitute can be used for the scrambled eggs, or, if you like poached eggs, you can top your creation with that.

A fun idea would be to let your guests layer what they like into their glass from already prepared ingredients.

Breakfast in a Glass

2 cups water

1/2 cup quick cooking grits

1 to 2 tablespoons sugar (sweeten to taste)

1 to 3 tablespoons butter

Prepare grits according to package instruction.

Place sausage patties on preheated skillet over medium heat. Cook 3 to 4 minutes per side until done. Chop coarsely.

Eggs:

Salt and pepper to taste

1 tablespoon milk

Have pan heating on stovetop over medium heat. Crack eggs into a bowl, add salt, pepper and milk. Whisk together. Pour into pan. Scramble to soft or hard, as desired

Optional ingredients:

Shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, chopped tomatoes.

To assemble:

Spoon half of prepared grits into each glass or bowl. Spoon chopped sausage on top of grits. Add scrambled eggs, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped tomato and garnish with parsley.
