Hiwassee College recently named Patricia “Patti” G. Clevenger the Dean of Students. Clevenger replaces Dr. Jim Cheek who retired in June.
Clevenger, a former Maryville Middle School teacher, comes to Hiwassee after serving 31 years in education - 29 with the Maryville City Schools and three years with the State Department of Education Career Ladder Evaluation. A graduate of Tennessee Technological University, Clevenger has a B.S. degree in Elementary Education; M.A. Degree in Elementary Education Reading and an Ed.S. Degree in Instructional Leadership.
“We are very pleased to bring someone of Patti’s experience and energy to Hiwassee,” said Interim President Jerry Russell. “I know she’s excited to get started, and the students will benefit from her knowledge, enthusiasm and understanding.”
“I’m looking forward to becoming part of the Hiwassee family,” said Clevenger. “The strong Christian tradition attracted me to the campus, and it is a beautiful setting for students to get their own ‘Great Beginning.’”
Clevenger serves as a leader on several Blount County boards including Leadership Blount Board of Directors, Area 15 Special Olympics Management Team and New Hope Children’s Advocacy Center. Other areas of service include: City of Maryville Foothills Fall Festival Team; Adventure Land Coordinator; Leadership Blount; East Tennessee Regional Leadership; Experience Your Smokies; Blount County Citizens Police Academy and Maryville Citizens Police Academy.
