Pellissippi State Community College recognized outstanding achievements by students and faculty at its 2010 Academic Awards held April 5 in the Clayton Performing Arts Center at the Pellissippi Campus.
Faculty member Edward Francisco was honored as the Faculty of the Year. Francisco is a professor of English at Pellissippi State.
Students Mary Denman and Kathryn Watson were named to the All-USA Community College Academic Team. They were nominated by Pellissippi State President Allen G. Edwards in recognition of scholarly achievements.
Outstanding Achievement Awards were presented to part-time and international students. Connie “C.J.” Miller received the Outstanding Achievement Award for Part-Time Students. International Outstanding Achievement Awards went to Mabia Carrico, Meiyu Chan and Sakulrat Shiwasopit.
Inductees in the 2009-10 Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges were Kacie Abbott, Komivi Agbeviade, Will Edwards, Seth Frazee, David Hamblin, Sandra Mallard, Jessica Mitchell, Malina McGee, Sydney Niswonger, Dasha Tammark, Charles Tillery, Kathryn Watson and Denise Yeo.
Awards of Merit were presented in several disciplines: Sarah LaVallee, French; Dennis Shepherd, Civil Engineering Technology; Jessica Gaylor, Interior Design Technology; Ricardo Muse, Mechanical Engineering Technology. Media Technologies presented Awards of Merit to Alicia Acuff, Communication Graphics Technology; Ann Hartsock, Video Production Technology; Kirsten Combs, Web Technology.
Outstanding Graduate Awards were presented across the academic curriculum, as well. Recipients included: Alicia Farrar, English; Jennifer Jessen and Michelle Wilson, Liberal Arts; Mary Denman and Robert Whipple, Mathematics; Mary Denman and Hubert Gibson, Natural and Behavioral Sciences.
Business and Computer Technology Outstanding Graduate Award recipients and their disciplines of study: Gina Seifert, Computer Accounting; Amy Green, Hospitality; Yolanda Roebuck, Management; Ryan Parker, Marketing; Everett Green, Programming; Joshua Oshier, Networking and Communications Systems; Jessica Helton, Health Care Office Administration; Christopher Lassen, Paralegal Studies.
The Engineering and Media Technologies Outstanding Graduate Awards were presented to Keith Morrison, Civil Engineering Technology; Al Colley, Electrical Engineering Technology; Krista Sapp, Interior Design Technology; Charles “Shane” Hawkins, Mechanical Engineering Technology; Stephen Keith Young, Communication Graphics Technology; Amanda McCathern, Photography; Sandra Walker, Video Production Technology; Timothy Porterfield, Web Technology.
Bart Murphy was honored with the Mechanical Engineering Technology John C. Mauer Award of Excellence. The Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) Student Leadership Award was presented to Bryan Patterson.
