The Maryville College baseball team outlasted Covenant College, 15-12, on Tuesday, with senior catcher Jamey Davis uncorking a monster day to help make it happen.
Covenant opened a 7-0 lead after an inning and a half. The Scots (19-11, 4-5 Great South Athletic Conference) scored four in their half of second to trim the deficit to three. In the bottom of the sixth, Davis blew the roof off Maryville’s Scotland Yard.
With Covenant leading 12-7, the Heritage High School product belted a bases-loaded blast over the left-field stands for a grand slam. One inning later, the Maryville receiver once again came to the plate with the bases loaded. After working the count to 3-2, Davis found the pitch he was looking, drilling another grand slam to left. The home runs were the eighth and ninth for Davis on the season.
