Pellissippi State’s Blount County Center hosts Medic blood drive

It’s one of those things you hope you’ll never need: a blood transfusion for yourself or a family member. Blood supplier processing fees can range from $100 to more than $500, and that doesn’t include a hospital’s transfusion charges.

Faculty, staff and students at Pellissippi State Community College will be able to take advantage of Medic Regional Blood Center’s individual coverage plan on Monday, Oct. 5, during the mobile blood drive at the school’s Blount County Center. The public is also welcome and encouraged to participate.

Donors must be at least 17 and weigh a minimum of 110. Medic suggests eating a high-protein, low-fat meal prior to donating. All blood types are needed.

The mobile unit will be in the front parking lot of Blount County Center, located on Middlesettlements Road in Alcoa, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
