Introduction to fellowship

Picnic at Maryville College focuses on faith

“No Perfect People Allowed” read some of the T-shirts at the Maryville College Student Ministry Picnic on Sunday, Aug. 23, at the college. The T-shirts -- worn by young folks representing The Remedy -- fit well with the atmosphere of fellowship and information at the student ministry picnic. The purpose of the picnic was for local churches and faith communities to gather at the campus to share food, fellowship and information about their worship services with the Maryville College students.

Having so many faith communities gathered together in one place was helpful, agreed several of the participants. The college hosts the picnic each summer and provides display tables and the main course for dinner. The sharing continues with the meal, with each church bringing side dishes and desserts as well as information about their programs for the college-aged students.

“The picnic is a fun way for congregations to introduce themselves to first-year students,” said Kathleen Farnham, director of church relations at the College.
