On August 3, 188 local golfers headed to Egwani Farms Golf Course to drive, putt and chip for United Way of Blount County. This year’s golf tournament, presented by ALCOA, Inc., was United Way’s 16th-annual, and it raised a record $26,000 for the organization's fall campaign.
The tournament was divided into morning and afternoon rounds with three flights each. First-place winners in each flight received a first-place trophy from Pokey's Sports, a $50 gift certificate to Egwani Farms Pro Shop and dinner for two for Aubrey's. Second place winners in each flight received a second-place trophy from Pokey's Sports.
Golfers were served a catered lunch in between the morning and afternoon rounds. In addition to prizes for flight winners, winners were drawn for door prizes throughout the event. One lucky golfer won a grand prize of 4 one-day passes to Dollywood, while another won 2 seats to an Alan Jackson concert.
Morning round winners in the first flight were Tom Hatcher, Kelly Thomas, Terry Yoakum, and Tim Everett.
Second flight winners in the morning round included Carl Pagles, Tom Howard, Mike Davis, and Dave Thomas.
Third flight winners for the morning round were John Frye, Ikey Russell, Rosemary Garland, and John Kincaid.
For the afternoon round, the winning team in the first flight was Larry Renfro, Dan Webb, Ken Jennings, and Greg Ryan.
The afternoon's second flight winners included Dave Ogle, Randall Honea, John Ingram, and Steve Pullins.
Third flight's winning team in the afternoon was Mike Zorio, Doug Overbey, Eric Harrell, and Greg Wilson.
