Alcoa at Christian Academy of Knoxville
The Class 3A top-ranked Tornadoes (9-0, 4-0 District 4AA) and third-ranked Warriors (9-0, 4-0) will decide the district championship in this one. One of the season’s most anticipated matchups will feature two decidedly different offenses — Alcoa’s punishing running game, highlighted senior Jaron “Touchdown Toney,” and Christian Academy’s slick passing attack, with junior quarterback Quinn Epperly at the controls.
Is it Friday yet?
Knox West at Heritage
The Mountaineers (4-5, 2-4 District 4AAA) can reach .500 for the first time in nearly a decade with a win. First-year coach Brint Russell has Heritage hopes soaring after last week’s stunning upset of Catholic. West (3-6, 2-4) is a dangerous opponents, but after the way the Mountaineer defense performed against the Irish, Heritage is a good bet. West Point commitment Michael Cermak just went off last week.
Maryville at Lenoir City
While the Class 6A second-ranked Rebels (8-1, 6-0 District 4AAA) clinched the district championship last week, Maryville isn’t likely to overlook the Panthers (3-6, 1-5) with the playoffs looming. Quarterback Philip Juhlin and receivers Stian Romberg, Desmund Horne, Kody Harris and Clarence Langley can strike quickly. Running back/linebacker Buddy Jones should get a medal for the way he’s played this season. The block by Jared Miller on Horne’s punt return last week was awesome.
William Blount at Farragut
The Admirals (7-2, 5-1 District 4AAA) are loaded and headed for the playoffs. This is it for the Governors (3-6, 1-5) this season, but there’s still a lot on the line. William Blount and Lenoir City are fighting to avoid last place in the final district standings. In a season filled with adversity, the Governors have persevered under first-year coach David Gregory. An upset isn’t likely, but then no one thought Heritage could mess with Catholic last week, either.
